Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how ScanDent (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our mobile application and website (the “Service”). We designed ScanDent with privacy in mind: your photos stay on your device by default and are processed only when you request an analysis.

1. Information we collect

Photos and camera data

When you run a dental scan or food scan, you choose photos to analyze. These images typically show your mouth and teeth and may include parts of your face (for example lips or cheeks visible in a smile selfie). Images are compressed on your device before upload. After you give in-app permission, we send them to our secure proxy server solely to perform the analysis you requested. We do not use your photos for advertising profiles.

Face data

What we collect: Smile / mouth photographs you capture or select for a Dental Score, whitening simulation, or related analysis. We do not collect Face ID data, TrueDepth meshes, biometric face templates, or a persistent face-geometry model.

On-device (not shared): To help you frame your mouth correctly and to render optional on-device whitening previews, the camera may use Apple's Vision framework to detect facial landmarks (such as lip position) in real time. That landmark processing happens entirely on your device, is used only momentarily, is never stored, and is never transmitted to our servers or any third party.

Shared with AI (with your permission): The photos you deliberately submit for analysis are sent to our proxy and third-party AI providers as described in section 3. The app asks for your explicit consent before the first upload. You can decline; in that case no photo is sent.

Retention & deletion: Uploaded photos are processed to return your result and are not retained as a long-term photo library on our servers. Scan results and history remain on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app.

Analysis results

Scores, metrics, recommendations, and related metadata returned by our AI systems may be stored locally on your device (for example, scan history and progress charts). We do not maintain a centralized user account database in the MVP version of the App.

Usage and device information

We may collect limited technical data such as:

Apple Watch sync

If you use the ScanDent Apple Watch companion, plan data, streaks, and checklist progress may sync between your iPhone and Watch via Apple's WatchConnectivity framework and a shared App Group container on your devices. This data stays on your devices and is not uploaded to our servers.

Purchases

Payments are processed by Apple. We receive subscription status and product identifiers through Adapty to unlock Pro features. We do not receive your full payment card details.

2. How we use information

3. AI processing and third parties

Before your photos are sent for analysis for the first time, the app shows an in-app disclosure that explains what is sent (your captured mouth/teeth photos), who receives it (our secure server and the third-party AI providers below), and asks for your explicit permission to continue. You can decline, in which case no photos are sent.

To deliver analysis, images and prompts may be processed by:

These providers process data under their own terms and privacy policies. We configure our systems so photos are transmitted for analysis only and are not intentionally stored long-term on our proxy after the request completes.

4. Data retention

5. Legal bases (EEA/UK users)

Where applicable, we rely on:

6. Your choices and rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

Because most data stays on your device, deleting the App removes locally stored scan history. For subscription or support questions, contact us at the email below.

7. Children

ScanDent is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

8. International transfers

Our service providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.

9. Security

We use HTTPS, app-level API keys, rate limiting, and industry-standard practices to protect data in transit. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; use the Service at your own risk.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Material changes may also be communicated in the App where appropriate.
